SPRING EDUCATION 2021 | Virtual Event

Caring Communities and Peace Church Risk Retention Groups will be hosting their annual Spring Risk Management Education Series as a two-day virtual event which will focuses on improving responses to unexpected patient harm events using a principled approach called Communication and Optimal Resolution (CANDOR).

This workshop series titled “Risk Management By Design: A ‘Roadmap’ for Responding to Unexpected Harm and the Compassionate Communication Process,” will provide a foundation for communities to respond in a timely, thorough, just, and empathic way when unexpected events cause resident or patient harm. The workshop will also address ways to systematically provide emotional first aid to members of the care team affected by harm events. Our guest speaker, Dr. Tim McDonald, MD, JD, is a physician-attorney and professor of law at Loyola University in Chicago. He is also the chief patient safety and risk officer at RLDatix.

We will again include a session for our Member communities to present their experience in risk management initiatives and best practices for resident safety. These presentations will be given during Day Two.

Day Two closes with a review of the updated “Setting Realistic Expectations Toolkit” and includes tools and strategies to enhance trust, build and sustain relationships, and effectively communicate when unanticipated events occur in care delivery systems.

Nursing and NCERS (NHA) continuing education credits (CEUs) will be provided for both days of education
