Description:
This webinar will explain how various fair housing laws impact senior housing providers with a particular focus on: (1) applicant screening policies; (2) reasonable accommodation in pet policies, live-in aides, and other resident policies and rules; and (3) limited English proficiency.

Objectives:

  1. Understand the three federal laws that provide fair housing rights to applicants and tenants
  2. Learn how fair housing issues impact everyday interaction with applicants and tenants
  3. Obtain the ability to spot fair housing issues
  4. Learn common mistakes made in the applicant screening process that lead to fair housing claims against senior housing providers
  5. Understand how to address reasonable accommodation requests whether you are the decision-maker or front line employee who is responsible for identifying, communicating, and facilitating the request with the decision-maker

Speaker Bio:
Scott P. Moore is widely recognized as a national expert in ADA and fair housing law. He served as a Deputy Chief of the Employment Litigation Section and a Senior Trial Attorney in the Housing Section of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. In those roles, Scott lead the Department’s enforcement actions on some of the largest employment, ADA, and fair housing pattern or practice cases brought by the United States. His personal experience as a person with a disability who uses a wheelchair combined with almost 30 years of legal experience puts him in a unique position to represent employers and housing providers on issues arising under various disability discrimination laws.

Scott focuses his practice on the defense and preventative representation of employers and the housing industries with a particular emphasis in defending discrimination matters under the ADA, Fair Housing Act, and Section 504. He has substantial experience in defending in individual and class/collective actions, including pattern or practice cases brought by the EEOC and Department of Justice, involving allegations of disability discrimination under the ADA, FMLA, the Fair Housing Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Scott has tried numerous federal jury trials to verdict under the ADA in multiple federal jurisdictions across the country and argued before the Fifth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal. He also serves as national ADA coordinating counsel for a Fortune® 150 company coordinating the national defense of employment discrimination claims.

Scott is named in The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers. He was recognized in the Lawyer Spotlight by the American Bar Association Commission on Mental and Physical Disability Law. He also serves on the LeadingAge national legal committee.
