All too often organizations will invest large sums of money on products and services related to Legionella control and Building Water Management Plan development and implementation that do not provide cost-effective or even significant risk reduction. This webinar will provide information on cost effective steps that can and should be taken to reduce the resident / patient risk for Legionnaires’ disease as well as the associated liability risk.

Objectives:
1. Factors that impact resident risk of Legionnaires’ disease in senior facilities (apartments, nursing homes, independent living)
2. Factors that impact liability risk associated with Legionnaires’ disease
3. Cost-effective actions to take to comply with ASHRAE 188 Standard and CMS Requirement to reduce Legionella Risk
4. Who should have facility leadership role in implementing a water management plan for Legionella control
5. Review of case studies to highlight what to do and what not to do in the event of a Legionnaire’ disease case

Speaker: Tim Keane

Tim Keane, owner of Legionella Risk Management, Inc. is a consulting engineer and a recognized expert on methods to control Legionella in building water systems in the areas of design and operation and to mitigate issues. He has forty years of field engineering experience including project engineering and facility engineering, the last twenty years focused on building water system design, operation, and maintenance and code development for waterborne pathogen control.

He was a member of the ASHRAE 188 committee from first meeting in 2005 through publication of the 2015 and 2018 standards and development of Guideline 12 2020. He has routinely presented at ASHRAE, ASPE and healthcare conferences and offered training seminars to academic researchers, plumbing designers, infection control and building maintenance personnel. He has worked with federal, state and local health departments as well as building owners and operators across the US in outbreak investigations and resolutions. He has developed and implemented waterborne pathogen risk management programs for building owners across the US. He has authored and coauthored numerous papers, standards and guidelines on control of waterborne pathogens in building water systems.
