Description:
This session will provide an in-depth review of the OIG General Compliance Program Guidance and the Nursing Facility Industry Segment-Specific Compliance Program Guidance, with a focus on how these frameworks apply to healthcare providers of all types. Attendees will leave with actionable insights to build, evaluate, and sustain compliance programs that not only align with OIG expectations but also promote resident safety, organizational integrity, and long-term organizational success.
Session Objectives:
- Describe the key components of the OIG General Compliance Program Guidance and the Nursing Facility Industry Segment Specific Compliance Program Guidance and how they apply to healthcare providers, including the importance of establishing an effective compliance program.
- Identify common risk areas within healthcare compliance such as fraud waste and abuse and understand how to assess these risks in your organization.
- Apply best practices for developing, implementing and maintaining a compliance program that aligns with OIG recommendations including integrating compliance, quality and safety initiatives, employee training, auditing and reporting mechanisms.
Speaker Biography:
Karla joined FSA in 2007 leading the growth and development of a nationwide compliance collaborative for non-profit values aligned life plan communities. She brings more than 40 years of experience in the senior care environment. She has worked in compliance since 2000 and has functioned as a Compliance Officer in single and multi-site, for profit and non for profit organizations.
Karla’s work has included working with government agencies including the Office of Inspector General, United States Attorneys’ Office, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and state health and welfare agencies. Her expertise includes developing and implementing compliance programs that fit an organization’s size, culture and resources. Karla’s experience includes navigating organizations through difficult and complex compliance issues. She frequently speaks at state and national conferences on compliance and other related topics.
Karla is a Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), and Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP). She is a member of the Healthcare Compliance Association and the American Health Lawyers Association
